The Varnett Public School's Aerospace S.T.E.A.M. Academy for middle schoolers is off to a strong start!
Twenty-nine students recently designed and launched Magnus gliders, spinning toys displaying looped trajectories when launched at velocity. The students creatively constructed the gliders by using household items such as cups and rubber bands in a show of innovation.
They also made their own videos of the launches and completed calculations to discover the average distance of the gliders. The project allowed students to engage in science, technology, engineering, arts and mathematics.
The aerospace curriculum in the land of Space City uses scientific methods as its foundation of project exploration while integrating math, reading, and writing with science.
