The Varnett Public School honored five student finalists at a District Science Fair on March 31, 2022, preparing a new crop of innovators to explore the possibilities of the future.
The event took place at the Administration Annex and featured guest speakers who enlightened and encouraged our students both in person and virtually.
The students took the opportunity to explain their science projects to an excited virtual audience based on their hypothesis (what were they testing) and conclusion (how did they support their hypothesis.)
Here’s how they placed (top picture from left to right)
- 1st Diamond Carter, 3rd grade, East campus, who compared varying amounts of water on plant growth (Water: The Magic Ingredient)
- 2nd Dominic Bernard. 5th, Southwest, compared the effectiveness of sponge mops versus cloth mops (Swap the Mop)
- 3rd Laila Harrell, 3rd, Northeast, compared chemical reactions by mixing baking soda with limes and oranges (Orange vs Lime)
- 4th Isabella Johnson, 3rd, Northeast, compared chemical reactions by mixing chemical agents with limes and lemons (Volcano Explosion)
- 5th Sharett Arzate, 4th, Southwest, tested chemical reactions with Coca-Cola and Mentos (The Two Volcanoes)
They all won prizes.
Hosting the event were Ms. Dedra Glasco, Southwest Instructional Facilitator and Ms. Bianca Whitaker, District Middle School Science Content Specialist.
Congratulations to our students and we thank them for their inquisitive minds and exploration into science.
