Administrators start learning Spanish

Administrators turned into students Tuesday as they began the first of several Spanish lessons.

Superintendent M. Annette Cluff arranged the classes so that key staff members can communicate better with Spanish-speaking parents. The group includes Mrs. Cluff, campus directors, assistant directors and members of the administrative staff. The classes will run 90 minutes each Tuesday and Thursday through the semester.

"This will be beneficial in communicating with our non English-speaking parents," said East Campus director Gayle Voltz. "While they are in the process of learning English, parents will feel more welcome in our school environment if they know the administrative staff is learning to better communicate with them."

The class is being taught by Cristina Salazar of F.S. Language Services, Inc. "Cristina and all teachers on our staff are native speakers and experienced with 5-10 years of teaching experience," the company's director, Flavia Schroeder, said in an e-mail.
