COVID, flu and RSV

All Varnett Parents:

Recent news reports have stated that in addition to COVID-19, the flu and Respiratory Syncytial Virus (RSV) cases are on the rise, and hospitalizations are increasing daily.

The Varnett Public School Board of Directors and the Administration ask for your support in urging your children to diligently wear a mask and regularly wash their hands. We are aware that the district cannot mandate mask wearing, but we are hopeful that parents will fully support our request.

I appeal to you to do all that you can to keep yourself, your family and our staff safe from the many viruses that are circulating in our environment.  We are experiencing a concerning increase in COVID-19 cases here at Varnett, involving both students and staff.  Many of us have infants or elderly or immune-compromised loved ones.  As a team, let’s do all that we can to protect them and ourselves by wearing masks, washing hands and following the CDC guidelines regarding safe practices.

Remember, when students become ill and must miss five or more days, teaching and learning suffers, and, even more importantly, contracting these viruses can be devastating to a family.

Thank you for your support of our efforts to maintain a safe and healthy school environment.

Best regards,

Warner D. Ervin
Interim Superintendent of Schools
