Varnett's Academics Department honors science fair finalists, top three winners

Varnett’s Academics Department hosted a competitive and spirited student Science Fair on March 29 that was carried virtually throughout the district.

The finalists came from each of Varnett's campuses. After they gave their presentation to a small audience in attendance, the judges announced the winners:

  1. Jenasys Taylor - 1st place, Southwest campus, 4th grade
  2. Hollis Jones - 2nd place, East campus - 5th grade
  3. Aki Hasan - 3rd Place, East campus - 5th grade

The judges’ scoring guide was based on how the students articulated all 6 parts of an experimental science project:

  • Ask a question
  • Research
  • Hypothesis
  • Experiment
  • Data Analysis
  • Conclusion

Janasys won first place for her project, Taco Sauce. In tallying up the scores, a three-judge panel considered the students' knowledge of the scientific method, enthusiasm and interest, knowledge of the project, evidence of research and a well-organized and visually appealing board that contained data.

Congratulations to all the winners and to those who represented their campuses in the finals!
