Students flocked to Varnett for the first day of school as they located their classrooms and met their teachers.
Many were accompanied by their parents as they entered the buildings and were greeted by staff. Some shared breakfast with their children before kissing them goodbye for the day.
Teachers and aides spent the last few weeks in in-service training and preparing their classrooms for their new students.
On Friday, Superintendent M. Annette Cluff conduced an all-day staff in-service training session. She discussed the accountability plan for student improvement; policies dealing with harassment, intimidation and bullying; employee, parent and student handbooks; fundraiser projects; incentive plans and community service projects.
