"Scrooge" a delight for Varnett students

Varnett sent 450 students, parents and teachers to see the stage presentation of Scrooge, a musical comedy version of the classic Yuletide fable “A Christmas Carol.”

The 55-minute performance, produced by The Humphreys School of Musical Theatre delighted the children, who showed their appreciation by applause and laughter at The Theatre Under The Stars in downtown Houston.

In Charles Dickens’ 1843 novel, Ebenezer Scrooge is a heartless, greedy man who despises Christmas. The tale of his redemption by the three Ghosts of Christmas has become a defining tale of the Christmas holiday.

The sold-out event was a great way to celebrate the holiday season and dispel the notion of “Bah Humbug!”
