Science Night at Varnett Public School Southwest

Nearly 50 families showed up for Science Night Feb. 16, traveling from station to station to engage in cool science experiments.

The experiments for students in grades kindergarten through fifth grade were related to energy, force, motion, properties of water, phases of the moon and more -- all tied to state standards for what students should know and be able to do. They also are aligned with the fifth-grade State of Texas Assessments of Academic Readiness (STAAR) test set for May 10.

"We wanted to pique everybody's interest about science," said Mr. Jesse Arps, the campus assistant principal.

Free pizza coupons were given to those who attended.
