The Varnett Public School has earned a five-star rating in making the 2018 Texas Smart Schools list produced by TXSmartSchools.org.
In order to earn a five-star Smart Score rating, the highest possible, a district (or campus) must be in the best 20 percent in two key dimensions: academic progress and cost-effective finances, TXSmartSchools.org stated in its news release.
There were 49 five-star charter and public school districts in 2018. Another 90 districts earned four-and-a-half stars.
The 2018 TXSmartSchools results were based on data from the 2016-17, 2015-16, and 2014-15 school years. The list was compiled using information from the Texas Education Agency, the U.S. Census Bureau and the Texas Comptroller of Public Accounts.
