Dr. Margaret Stroud has shown that excellence starts at the top.
On Thursday night, The Varnett Public School superintendent was presented the “Excellence in Education Award” by the Texas Southern University College of Education. She was honored at The Junior League of Houston, Inc., which hosted the gala designed to recognize “outstanding educators.”
Another honoree, Ms. Nicole Haskins, principal of Reagan Mading Elementary School since 2014, was a student of Dr. Stroud’s when she taught master classes at TSU.
Dr. Stroud noted with pride that 100 percent of all TSU students who major in education are certified teachers before they even graduate.
It all began when Dr. Stroud received her Bachelor of Science degree in Education from TSU. (Read her complete bio here). She worked in a variety of educational settings including K-12, charter schools and post secondary before being named Varnett’s superintendent at the beginning of the 2014-15 school year.
“Our graduates embody the characteristics which provide the foundation for the conceptual framework of the College,” Dr. Lillian B. Poats, dean of TSU’s College of Education, said in a statement. “Our commitment is to creating professionals who are caring, committed, competent and culturally responsive.”
Congratulations, Dr. Stroud!
