On the third day of school, fifth-grade students in Mr. Starks' class recite the Preamble to the U.S. Constitution. The Southwest Campus students are learning about the Constitution as part of their social studies instruction.

Students list concerns to schools chief
Shortly before school ended for the year, East Campus third through fifth graders elected student body officers for 2016-17. They are Cristopher Carballo, president; Ashley Hernandez, vice president and Manaiha Richardson, secretary. They wasted no time meeting with Varnett Public School Superintendent Margaret Stroud and telling her what they would like from Varnett as they enter the fifth grade. The session took place during Field Day at South Campus. Watch and listen.

Poetry and math night at East Campus
Poetry 1960s style and math camp at East Campus Thursday night. Poems are part of the standards for the STAAR (The State of Texas Assessments of Academic Readiness) test for third through fifth graders.The campus also wanted to introduce poetry to Prek through second-grade students. April is National Poetry Month
